Stasys Eidrigevičius

There are times when you just fall in love with an image . . . this is one of those times.
A poster for 2009 film Bouzkashi by Lithuanian illustrator Stasys Eidrigevičius.
I have just been researching some of his illustrated masks and other illustration and graphical works all of which are much more accomplished and refined than this but it is the raw, rough quality that I like.

Silvana Avila I

Nice to know that there are a few of us playing with doilies. Here are some of Silvana Avila's doily works, have a look at her blog as she has other lovely illustration work and lots of wonderful links.

Anna Gillespie

Anna Gillespie forms people from leaf litter and acorn cups a strange alchemy that creates wonderful haunting pieces of art.

Anne Crahay III

Still in France today (on this blog at least), with further works by illustrator Anne Crahay who caught my attention with a cow in her stomach (top illustration).
I suppose it is a little like the old lady who swallowed a fly, but I love the poor expectant looking cow in the translucent stomach of this picture.

Thomas Serpa

I find Thomas Serpa's works disturbing, in that they capture and layer the chaos of life onto the page. They are maps of daily existence, not only geographical maps but maps of emotion, fear and tension laid down without any sense of  decorum on scraps of paper in biro, felt tip and tippex.
Thomas's works are about big subjects violence, street gangs, abductions and accidents, important messages scribbled on crumpled scraps of paper.

Betania Zacarias II

This is Betania Zacarias's New Year wish for 2011. I love this little winter scene with its doily snow cloud and the lovely houses and trees with their shadows, makes me want to go and make one right now. Betania Zacarias is an Argentinian graphic designer and illustrator who now lives in the wonderful city of Barcelona.

Betania Zacarias I

Betania Zacarias's beautiful pale collaged illustrations are this mornings art room offering, have a good week.

Sunday Snowflakes

It is early I know, but Freya insisted that today we make snowflakes, so we went out specially, as I wanted to try making them from paper doilies. These are cut from silver and white paper doilies.
Christmas has started in my house.

Freya's Moustached Spider

Love the stubble, and the over enthusiastic addition of a few extra eyes.

Whiskers = Moustached Spiders . . . Illustration Friday

I was up all night last night and hence I started drawing moustached spiders, as an answer to Illustration Friday's 'whiskered' week.
They were endorsed by Freya this morning who not only said that she loved them but also then did her own version.

Milk

Above my wolfish experiment, below a student (Lee's) work

I was inspired to try milk painting after seeing this, so I spent a night making a wolf picture and then decided to try it out with my class for life drawing today (Tuesday). This was a little ambitious as there were a lot of students and just two irons, but it gave them a flavor of this technique, which is really lovely and reminds me of lithography which I have not had the opportunity to do for some time now.
Sorry I am jumping around in my posts at the moment as I am still without my computer.

Above my portrait of the model.

Damien Poulain

These made me smile masks made of sweets by Damien Poulain, the liquorice lace hair is genius.
"Inspired by pagans garments and shamans’ masks – which are said to transport their wearers to a transcendent realm – the sweet masks are designed to lead this magical tribe towards another, fantastical, reality." Damien Poulain. (thank you)

Moby Dick II

In this weekends Moby Dick, I have used layers of acrylic and scratched text into them from the book, like scars on the whale.

Moby Dick I

Here are some pictures of an illustration I did last weekend on the theme of Moby Dick. On dark Nepalese paper with white pencil and acrylic. I think I am going to do some more this weekend.
I love whales though I don't recall having ever seen one, lots of dolphins but, as yet never a whale.
